This is such a devastating and uncertain time, and you captured this slice of life in LA so poignantly. Sending you virtual hugs from the valley.
The information overwhelm (often without any concrete, individualized action steps) only adds to the confusion, but if it's at all useful, KCRW did a webinar specific to families and included a wonderful pediatrician on the panel. I found it helpful and oddly comforting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJNQFxey1Qk
I get it, your fears are real girl. I was born and raised in LA and we always lived with the fear of the "Big One" or some fires here and there but this is life changing! I ended up moving to NYC to go to NYU and staying after college, marrying and having kids but when 911 hit I was like you... anxious, nervous and doom was lurking around every corner. The city felt like a sad place to raise my littles. We looked high and low and ended up moving to the Hudson Valley. It was the best decision of my life. The schools were amazing, the families were creative and fun, young types just there to get some fresh air and a new beginning. The History that surrounded us and the close proximity to the city and all it has to offer was just what the dr. ordered. My kids had a bucolic and idyllic childhood and I felt like I was on vacation everyday. My husband commuted and I worked from home and trained into the city when I needed, was there within an hour!
Just saying, you sound like you have a cute little unit that can easily move right now, maybe this is the moment! Good luck with everything, thanks for sharing and you sound like a very special mommy. Everything will be ok its just sucky sometimes!
