MOTHERS DAY GIFTGUIDE

Last year, aka my first real Mother’s Day - I made a rookie mistake. I sat and waited for the universe to inspire my husband to plan the day out for me and buy me a present.

That Sunday morning I woke up hopeful and excited. I waited for my husband to wake up and be floored with surprises and showered with presents. SPOILER ALERT. It did not happen. Flowers arrived in the afternoon and his grand plans were brunch. So, as you can imagine I had a tantrum and left the house hysterically (telenovela style) to plan my own special day. Don’t worry, the day ended up including a museum, ramen and … LLAMAS ! Regardless to say I work well under pressure.

This time around (a seasoned mother), I know better than to expect miracles. I planned my own little weekend getaway, and I send out an email titled Mother’s Day Gift Ideas with links to some of the things I have been eyeing for him to choose from and “surprise me”.

So in the spirit of taking matters into our own hands, here’s a guide that can be easily shared with your partner. Or get inspired and get something for yourself - because we all know you deserve it. And, one day to be celebrated, is nowhere near enough.

1. MICROCURRENT FACIAL - nothing says I love you, Mom, more than a facelift. Shamara is the BEST in the game. Highly recommend a visit if you are in NYC or Miami, you will look like a glowy-tight dumpling 24hrs after.

2. NUFACE - this little one is small but mighty and definitely worth the investment. PS: if you want something more drastic but $$$ check out this at-home laser device.

3. BISOU BALM - the perfect everyday lipstick, a blurred-out reddish color.

4. BEYONDERWAY FACE AND BODY OIL - the most relaxing and hydrating oil in the market, I love it so much, that it's the only beauty product I brought to the hospital when I gave birth.

5. MASQUE VIVANTE - aka the Poop Mask from Biologique Recherche. It smells horrible, BUT it works. Tighter skin, smaller pores, and a refreshed look 20 mins later are guaranteed.

6. MASSAGE - by far the most requested gift of them all. Tomoko Spa in LA is always a nice splurge while Raven Spa is a nice option that won’t break the bank.

7. A DAY-PASS AT A LUXURY HOTEL - If you are in LA, I highly recommend the Miramar in Santa Barbara, they couldn’t be more family and dog friendly.

8. JOIE - an American’s guide to enjoying life, the French way.

9. DR. DENNIS GROSS SPECTRALITE FACEWARE PRO - An LED device that targets wrinkles and blemishes for smoother skin. SIGN ME UP. I’ll take anything that makes me look like I slept 12 hours.

10. WESTMAN ATELIER LIT-UP HIGHLIGHTER STICK - hands down the best highlighter in the market, light enough for a natural look, yet strong enough for the right shine.

11. HIGH-FREQUENCY BAND - oxygenates, rejuvenates, stimulates circulation + helps with hair growth (especially for postpartum bald spots).

12. AUGUSTINUS BADER THE CREAM - If you are going to splurge on one face product let it be this cream. You are welcome.

1. DYNE - bespoke rings made with unique symbols that tell a story. I got one of Sarah’s rings as my push present and I must say it’s my most cherished piece of jewelry. A modern-day heirloom.

2. OE X MOTHER LOVERS - the gift that keeps giving. 100% of the proceeds of this collaboration go directly to THE MOTHERS LOVERS an organization raising awareness about maternity health in the US.

6. SIMA JEWELS SPELL NECKLACE - call me cheesy but I have a necklace with my son’s name on it and I love it.

8. BVLGARI VINTAGE - I’ve been a fan of vintage Bvlgari for quite some time and this ring does not disappoint. Definitely a standout piece.

9. OPIUCHUS PROMISE RING - I never knew I could love a dainty ring so much until I saw this one.

10. MUSIC BOX CHARM - did I mention this vintage tiny thing works?

11. MINIATURE PLAYING CARDS CHARM - gamer mom enters the chat.

9. CHUNKY WOOD BOWL - I’m obsessed with everything Gustaf Westman does, and this is no exception. The quality and colors are simply perfection.

10. SERVING STAND - A Mexican gem of a brand, a tribute to local pottery tradition since colonial times.

8. SEXY HEELS - best color combination.

9. ONE SIZE FITS MOST SWIMSUIT - these swimsuits are incredible. Not only do they fit women 2-10 they also suck everything in. HIGHLY recommend - especially for new moms whose weight is fluctuates.

10. DRIES DRIES DRIES - the kinda blazer that will always make you feel special.

11. ANAAK DRESS - the chicest fabric and the perfect everyday dress day to night. THIS one is also a good option by Mango if you want a fancier pink dress.

12. CRISTA SEYA ROPE BELT - this brand is Paris's best-kept secret and only has the store open for 4 weeks at a time. THIS shirt is also amazing, or if you are looking for a more affordable version of a stripped shirt this vintage YSL is great.

13. THE EVERDAY BAG - basically the row for $20, you are welcome.

14. DATENIGHT DRESS - or the perfect dress for a girl’s night out: both MUCH needed.

15. A COTTON WHITE SKIRT - ever since I saw the Prada runway show it’s all I have been wanting to wear. I love the flower cutout detail at the bottom. If you want a cleaner option BYSLOAN makes a great version.

Last and not least, because I am running out of space - you can never go wrong with one of these.
