This ozempic craze is feeling like a personal attack against me at this point.
My social media feeds are full of celebrities and influencers denying they are on it - yet losing weight faster than I can finish a popsicle.
The timing couldn’t be worse on my end as I am trying for a second baby - so I have to limit anything fun or weight loss-inducing these days. YAY.
The truth is that I’ve struggled with my weight pretty much my whole life. Name a doctor, disorder, procedure, diet pills/ fad, I’ve done it. I honestly tried it all. All the diets. All the pills. I even went to the most luxurious fat camp in Italy aka Palace Merano for a week and although I did lose about 7 pounds - I ended up quickly gaining them back. (Remind me to get a Birkin next time instead)
Yo-yoing has been a lifestyle, and at this point, I have sizes 2 to 8 in my closet, just because I don’t know what size I’m going to be that month.
The idea of pregnancy excited me, but the idea of what it was gonna do to my body petrified me. I literally remember seeing the pictures of Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson’s pregnancies and thinking that that was gonna be my future. I had come to terms with the fact that I would grow 360. It was scary, but necessary to have a baby- so I guess a trip to Colombia for a body makeover would happen right after, et voila!
To my surprise pregnancy didn’t go as planned. During the first 3 months, I had so much acid reflux that I lost 15 pounds. Who knew pregnancy was the diet I always needed?! I was feeling like crap BUT I was looking GOOD.
The truth is, I had NEVER felt so comfortable in my body. For the first time in my 30s, my stomach was TIGHT! No one ever told me your stomach gets so tight and hard with pregnancy ?! NO MORE ROLLS. The dream.
For the first time in my life, I wasn’t fat or chubby- I WAS PREGNANT!
My style during that time reflected just that. PURE JOY: joy to be pregnant, joy to find a non-superficial purpose for my body, joy of life.
I knew early on that I was never gonna wear maternity clothes. I hate the thought of buying low-quality things that I can only wear for a short period of time. Plus somehow the market seems to be divided between hoe maternity gear (hello bodysuits), über feminine cheesy dresses, and frumpy styles.
Honestly, I think we deserve better. Pregnancy is challenging enough to have to wear ugly clothes.
So in the spirit of JOY, here are my pregnancy wardrobes heroes:
DRIES VAN NOTEN WRAP - not exactly a button-up shirt but it serves the same purpose, so ill squeeze it in here ;)
OLD CELINE BUTTON UP - one of my all-time favorite shirts, and I found it at a decent price for you on Grailed. (you are welcome)
HOMMEGIRLS SHIRT- hands-down the best poplin shirts. Go for the cropped one if you are feeling yourself, or the long version which pretty much goes with anything and everything.
CECILIE BAHNSEN SHIRT- a more interesting take on the clean-cut shirt.
AZEEZA DRESS - THE prettiest color, this dress makes me feel like dancing.
DRIES VAN NOTEN KAFTAN - perfect for a pool or beach day.
THE ROW - a classic. everyone needs a white kaftan in their wardrobe - especially one from the row ( + on sale)
NACKIYE - this Turkish brand makes incredible dresses. Wear the belt on top of the belly for a body-flattering look, or take the belt off for a flowy moment.
MATTEAU - they make the best poplin dresses, I own too many to admit. Wear it anywhere, anytime. Ps, I just got this other yellow one on super sale ;)
VICTORIA BECKHAM - this jersey fabrication is BEYOND flattering (Hugging all the right places without clinging).
DION LEE PIERCED DRESS - love the material, I wore a similar one when I was 41 weeks pregnant.
KHAITE JERSEY DRESS - a pink dress is always a good idea, period.
LOUISA BALLOU MESH DRESS - this dress has babymoon written all over it.
CHRISTOPHER ESBER MAXI DRESS - a favorite during, pre, and post-pregnancy.
TOTEME LBD - the perfect black little dress. Date worthy.
ACNE PANTS - my FAVORITE pair of pants right now. The tie detail accommodates a growing belly beautifully.
BRAINDEAD PANTS - I stole these from my husband and managed to wear them all 42 weeks of pregnancy.
PISTOLA BOBBIE JEANS - THE softest denim, Feels like sweatpants. Unbutton the top and fold it, and you will be left with a low-rise pair of jeans that should carry you into the last months of pregnancy.
NORMA KAMALI LEGGINGS - I’m not a fan of leggings, but I guess if you are going to wear them, you mind as well wear this pair.
TEKLA STRIPPED PANTS - perfect to wear with a tank and a long coat for a Sunday outing, or lounging at home with a cozy sweater.
HELSA CASHMERE SKIRT - nothing feels as good as cashmere when pregnant. And this skirt + robe set is the type of outfit you will wear on repeat.
ANINE BING SKIRT - thank the lord for elastic waistbands! ;dress up with a bodysuit or down with an oversized sweater.
HELSA COTTON SKIRT - your everyday go-to skirt.
CHRISTOPHER ESBER SARONG SKIRT - über flattering, perfect for date night.
DRIES VAN NOTEN LEOPARD TRENCHCOAT - this coat will add an extra pep to your step on the days you aren’t feeling your best.
TOTEME BELTED BLAZER - wear the belt empire style to accommodate the bump, or wear it loose for a chic oversized look.
DRIES VAN NOTEN SILK ROBE - a long coat always elongates the figure and
STUSSY BOMBER JACKET- nothing says cool mom to be like an oversized bomber and a tank.
Y/PROJECT BELT COAT - a classic with an edge, a forever piece.
Ok, it’s a wrap. (for now)
Besos,
Victoria
