*as per my last newsletter, I can’t seem to stop thinking about the idea of uniform dressing. I’ve always dressed in an intersection of trends and Vibes, even the colors I choose are based on how I am feeling that day. If I’m wearing all black for example it can be 1 of 2 things, either I feel sexy, or I simply cannot be bothered and want to look put together.
My style has always been LOUD, fun, and fashion-forward, very much a medium for self-expression. That being said I also had a lifestyle that did not involve kids, playdates, or any sort of practicality for that matter. My outfits these days have to make sense, the purchases need to be thought thru, girl math needs to be mathing, and decisions need to be made around stricter budgets ( schools, and electricity, and nannies, and food, and adulting things somehow need to be prioritized. boring and sad but necessary).
I literally feel like I am doing a million things all the time, all while feeling like I did not do enough. Constantly. So in the spirit of streamlining an area of my life, and trying to figure out a style that feels fashion yet still practical here is my attempt at a mom Uniform.
Amanda Chantal Bacon seems to navigate entrepreneurship, parenting, and style like a champ. This picture of her lives rent-free in my head, and drove me to register. for the doen sold out skirt ( I found 2 good options under $200 here and here )
When I try to rationalize why I find this outfit so good, it really comes down to the fact that it’s practical, yet feminine, put together, yet casual, and sporty but still fancy + I love the unexpected use of color. So in order to keep that spirit alive I took a dab at recreating outfits with the same formula
1.J.Crew Sweater 2.NY Hat 3.Axel Arigato Trench 4. Nackiye Skirt 5. Loewe Shoes
Matteau Top 7. Studio Nicholson 8. Loewe Bag 9. Doen Skirt 10. Row shoes
Alex Mill Camo Jacket 12. J.Crew Rollneck 13.Lace Skirt 14. Row Shoes
This is a quintessentially me outfit. A midi skirt, with a men’s knit - the pink color on this one is sooooo good. It reminds me of look 23 of the SS’25 Prada show - which will haunt me until I figure out a way to make the price make sense. In the meantime, I took some cues of color from yesterday’s show for this outfit mixing pink, gray, and burgundy together - which ties in very nicely. The Hat? Not something I usually wear, but I feel like it really ties the outfit together.
Transition dressing is upon us, the 113-degree LA heat is finally over and I for one am so excited for layers. This skirt has been an MVP all summer. It can be worn so many different ways, I just paired it here with a classic Breton top and my go-to shoes ( which sold out last time I posted them on Instagram - but I found a new link. They are a splurge but so worth it, they literally make any outfit more interesting. The loewe bag, its honestly so practical, I wear mine so many times It has basically paid for itself.
In the midst of Barn jacket season, there’s something that feels irreverent about a camo jacket. You can take a more-is-more approach and style it like the iconic Jalil Johnson, or go basic (with a twist) and pair it with a lace skirt, and a classic J.Crew Rollneck sweater. If you are more of a pants girl, these white ones are great + I would love them paired with a thin long sleeve like this one .Also, can we discuss how perfect these flats are?
Cropped Shirt 2. Alex Mill Camo Jacket 3. Donni Shorts 4. Mesh Flats 5. Alex Mill Striped Top 6. Otto Boyfriend Jacket 7.Donni pants 8. Guest in Residence Sweater 9. Barbour Gabardine 10. Stratus Pants. 14. Row Shoes
I need to be transparent and say I don’t wear shorts, long story short, I don’t like my legs - that being said IF I did, I would definitely be wearing these for drop off. Thank God Donni made a pant version too. I would wear these SO MUCH. For School drop off, park dates, lunch, or even to a dinner + a kitten heel. If you want something more classic these navy ones promise to be a great addition to the “Idk what to wear so I will just wear these chair pile”.
Ps: I recently found this Barbour jacket in collab with Alexa Chung, and its PERFeCT. I'm not sure when NAP is going to drop it but stay tuned!!! It would also be so perfect on top of a fancy dress, or sequined skirt ( this one is 60% off right now, and it is perfect and transparent enough plus oh so girly, this other one is 75% off, and the perfect red add a sweater or a little cardigan and DONE ).
1.DOEN Cardi 2.Axel Arigato Trench 3. JCrew Lace Dress 4. Jellies 5. Mill Shirt 6. DOEN Skirt 7. Amelie Tee 8. Cos Barn Jacket 9.Fisherman Pants 10. Keds 11.Rugby Shirt
This dress is THE prettiest yellow- and according to Buzzfeed it’s the color of the season + its on sale so get it while it’s hot. It’s a great stand-alone dress with heels for date-night, plus it would look equally as good with a cardi or sweater on top. As you know I am a sucker for a good color combo. and this Axel Arigato Trench really makes everything else pop. Also in case you haven’t already, get the jellie dupes - even if its fall. You will go somewhere warm and thank me. I had the ones from the row ones for 2 weeks before they broke, and these are basically the same thing.
This Burgondy Cos jacket is by far the best non-Prada version of the season. Its so great casually styled with oversized pants, and equally good paired with the embellished skirts I mentioned before, here and here . The red one would also look so good with the kids rugby top !( size accordingly ).
I know this is a big statement, but keds are the most underappreciated shoe ever. They go with everything and are not too trendy. So go get a pair. I promise they are THAT good, and if they get too dirty they are cheap enough to buy a new pair.
I feel like this is enough Fashion rambling for today. Send me your mom uniforms, I would love to see!
Besos,
You ESL friend Victoria
