Let me start by saying that if you know me- you know I love my Doona. As a matter of fact, I love it so much that I held out for dear life and used it until my son’s little feet were smushed against the back of the car seat. So regardless to say it was a very sad goodbye when at 12 months we finally had to part ways. Since Doona hasn’t made a bigger size of their brilliant all-in-one wonder it was time to say Goodbye. Goodbye, freedom. Goodbye to having a car seat + a Stroller all in one and traveling carefree.
So now what? In the spirit of saving you all some time, and frantically doing some research + harassing all my friends via email, WhatsApp groups + Instagram - I gathered some intel.
Before I go to the top picks. Let me recap the top things to look for when buying a stroller:
Safety: you are looking for a five-point harness with straps over both shoulders, hips, and between the legs, a wide base that can’t tip over easily & breaks that lock both wheels.
Versatility: does it recline fully for on-the-go naps? will it grow with your family?
OnBoard Storage: cup holders & space for bags, toys, diaper bag, etc…
Weight and size: you don't want to break your back.
Folding and Storing: ideally you want a stroller that folds tightly and that doesn’t take up much space in your house.
BEST STROLLERS
SINGLE STROLLER
UPPABABBY CRUZ V2 ($699.99)
PS: After a lot of internal debate we ended up getting the Cybex Balios S Luxe ($549) and I must say we LOVE it. It drives so smoothly, it hands tons of storage space in the bottom + it fully reclines for on the fo naps. 5 Stars!
SINGLE TO DOUBLE STROLLER
CYBEX GOLD Gazelle S. Stroller (on sale for $599)
Ps: I must say as someone actively trying to have a second baby, and doing more research than I wanted on this issue. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I hate side-by-side strollers, they are simply too bulky and inconvenient ( their size reads grotesque to me, I can’t help it) The Gazelle S doesn’t only look good but also outperforms anything else in the market.
A more price-friendly non side-by-side option is the Mockingbird Single to Double Stroller at $450
TRAVELING STROLLER
BABYZEN YOYO2 ($449)
CAR SEAT
NUNA RAVA ($550)
If you want to go all LUXE. I highly recommend the Nuna Revv ($650) it ROTATES! Which seems like an unnecessary luxury until you have back pain from maneuvering the baby in and out of the car seat. The only downside is that it fits kids up to 40 lbs.
Ps: a more affordable version we also own at home and LOVE is the Cybex Eternis S (on sale right now for $249.95). Feels like a fancy First class seat minus the pricetag
PORTABLE CAR SEAT
WAY B PICO TM ($380 /$495 with backpack)
Important: car seats on board can only be placed on a window seat, so make sure you book a window seat if you wish to install it for your flight.
Ok, this is a wrap for today. Kept it nice and tight.
Stay tuned for a new series featuring some of the coolest people I know giving us the 411 on where to travel with kids this summer.
Besos,
Victoria
