I love cakes. All cakes. Some more than others, but there’s a place in my heart for all of them. I wish I could take full credit for this love affair, but the truth is that I inherited it from my mother. She, like me, has never baked a cake in her life BUT- she still hasn’t met a cake she didn’t like. So in one way or another, cake-loving is my inheritance.
Birthdays were a BIG deal in my family, I remember having a countdown at school + at home a month ahead of the big day, to make sure everyone knew about it (I didn’t want people to come up with excuses for forgetting). And big celebrations deserved BIG ornated cakes. I grew up in Lima, Peru - so we definitely didn’t have the choices we have now. Still, my mom made sure that I ALWAYS had the most amazing cakes: Chantilly tie-dye trees with chocolate trunks, cuac cuac made bridges, and fondant dolls decorated some of my many cakes.
Naturally, when it came time to pick up the cake for my son’s bday there was A LOT of pressure. So, if you like me, take celebration cakes seriously, here are some of my current favorites - in no particular order…
Ps: if you are looking for a cake maker in your area/ or a specific cake style I’m happy to do the research for you too, so let me know!!!
